Dr. Breitreiter — or “Dr. Kat the Cat Doctor” — is the owner of South Austin Cat Hospital. She graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and began her career in shelter medicine and TNR for outdoor cats in Austin.

She is an active member of AVMA, TVMA, FVMA, ABVP, and the Paw Project, and serves on the advisory board for Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. Her published work appears in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery.

When not working, Dr. Breitreiter enjoys yoga, video games, board games, reading, and travel.

Joining the SACH Family

Dr. Melody Grant

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine · She/Her

Dr. Grant is our newest associate veterinarian at SACH, starting in July 2026. She grew up north of Austin in Temple, Texas, and moved to Austin for her undergraduate studies in biology at UT Austin, where she discovered her love for cats while working as a kitten nursery technician and later as a veterinary assistant at a cat-only facility.

In 2026, she earned her degree at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, where she strived to continuously ask professors questions about feline medicine differences in diagnosis and treatment. She plans to pursue board certification training in feline medicine through the University of Sydney.

She is fear-free in all of her handling, and she treats each and every cat with respect and as if they are one of her own. She has multiple cats in her own family, one of them being fearful during vet visits, and this drives her to be empathetic to each and every patient. She strives to achieve the best possible experience for each owner and their cats.

In her free time, she loves watching movies with her cats, playing board games, going west coast swing or bachata dancing, hiking, practicing yoga, traveling to visit family and friends, and exploring Austin’s allergy-friendly restaurant scene.

Brittany was born in Trinidad, CO, and spent much of her childhood traveling with her family across the central and western United States before eventually settling in Midland, TX. Her “crazy cat lady” journey began at the age of five, when her family adopted a beautiful Himalayan boy who slept on her head every night. From that moment on, it was clear that she shared a special bond with cats.

After marrying her husband, JJ, in 2013, the two moved to Boulder, CO, where Brittany pursued her passion for veterinary medicine at the highly regarded Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Aurora. She graduated in 2017 and went on to serve as the lead CVT at an all-cat clinic for two and a half years.

In 2021, Brittany and JJ relocated to beautiful Austin, TX, where she proudly joined the South Austin Cat Hospital team. She is excited to continue growing both as a technician and now as the Practice Manager, supporting her team and providing exceptional care to clients and their feline companions.

Brittany and JJ share their home with three wonderfully bratty cats: Cheddar, Mac (short for Mac n Cheese), and Tippy Toes (the former Director of Staff Morale at SACH). They also hold the memory of their beloved Bacon, Brittany’s heart and soul cat, who passed in March 2025 forever in their hearts. Outside of work, Brittany enjoys relaxing at home, obsessing over her cats, and finding new ways to embrace the chaos and joy of life with her feline crew.

Natascha was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, while their dad attended The University of Hawaii to get his Ph.D. in biophysics. They spent much time in labs with their dad as a kid, spurring their love for science. Natascha has loved cats since infancy and has never been without one in their entire life. They started their involvement in feline welfare by volunteering with Houston-based shelters in 2010. Natascha started working for APA! in 2015 after moving to Austin to attend college at The University of Texas, and quickly started the APA! Cat Matchmakers Program that very year. The Matchmakers program’s goal was to provide better quality adoption matches and to advocate for special needs cat adoptions. In 2017, they became the feline leukemia research coordinator for a large two-year study funded by Maddie’s on best FeLV testing practices in shelters. They have overseen the intake and placement of over 1,000 FeLV cats since 2017. Wanting to learn more about private practice and specifically cat specialty medicine, Natascha left the shelter world to join the SACH team.

In their spare time, Natascha is involved in several feline research studies, plays video games, and goes on hikes. They share their home with six cats named Dr. Kaiju Murderfloof, Berlioz Bootybutt, A Little Bird, Oatmeal Creme Pie, Barbie as Rapunzel, Shrimp Fried Rice… and one dog named Stitch. Natascha recently moved to Michigan to get out of the heat of the Texas summers, but they are looking forward to upholding our standard of care from afar by writing custom labwork emails, sending out referrals, and answering any questions clients may have about their beloved feline’s needs.

That dream was always doomed to fail, but Kelsey went for the next best thing, which was a career in animal care.

Kelsey currently attends Texas State pursuing a degree in Wildlife Biology, and hopes to open her own wildlife rehabilitation center eventually. In the meantime, she devotes her time, love, and attention to her 3 dogs- Beth, Cash, and Nyx- and her 2 cats- Ba’al and Midna. Kristen grew up near Atlanta, GA, where she attended Georgia Tech and got her Bachelor’s in Material Science and Engineering. She moved to Austin in 2014 to pursue a graduate degree, but a series of hijinks ensued, ending with her working at Austin Pets Alive! Instead, in her six years at APA!, Kristen was a Cat Adoption Counselor, the Ringworm Program Manager, and eventually the Cat Programs Senior Manager. Through these experiences, she discovered a passion for advocating for the most vulnerable cats, learning about the cutting edge of shelter medicine, and above all, trying to make the world a little better for her favorite animals and those who love them. She’s thrilled to be able to continue that journey at South Austin Cat Hospital, combining her love of science with her drive to help cats!

In her free time, Kristen takes any dance lessons she can, watches sports anime with her partner, writes stories about ghosts, and continues her quest to find the best vegan cheesecake recipe. Christi is an Arizona native who relocated to Austin with her partner Emilio in 2019. She is an avid nature lover and has been all about the outdoors from a young age. Although she has always been passionate about animals, her love of cats came much later when she fostered a neonate kitten named Sawyer in 2018. Through interactions with her, Christi realized that cats were nothing like the caricatures that were historically painted of them.

In 2021 she joined the Austin Humane society clinic team, where she had the opportunity to interact with and learn more about cat behavior/medicine and surgery. Her experience taught her that the kindest thing we can do for cats is to work to understand them. She is honored to be a part of a low stress exclusively feline practice and is excited to learn all she can in her time with SACH!

Christi obtained a degree in Biological Sciences in 2021 from ASU and hopes to one day continue her education in animal medicine. Her dream is to work with endangered wildlife all over the world, providing rehabilitation and participating in conservation efforts. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing video games, and spending time with her partner and their animal-family: Theo (Weimaraner mix), Ruth (Great Dane), Sawyer (Turkish Van) and Franco (Siberian Mix).

Originally from Wisconsin, Kasara moved to Austin, TX in 2023 to further expand her knowledge in animal welfare. Kasara’s animal care journey began as a hobby while she pursued a career as a Behavioral Health Technician. It was while working with young adolescents in her Mental Wellness program, Kasara learned how truly impactful trauma informed care was. As well as the importance of advocating for those who could not advocate for themselves. It was not long before she began to see the same importance while volunteering at local animal shelters in her area. It was then that she stumbled upon a Fear Free based Humane Society.

Previously never hearing of Fear Free handling, Kasara fell in love with the concept quickly and was hired as the Animal Care Lead, operating the shelter in the absence of the Animal Care Director. Kasara’s passion for animal advocacy began to bloom like never before. She helped with both cat, dog and small animal outreach within the community, spreading the word of Fear Free practices from the shelter into adopted homes. She found herself helping both people and their pets to build loving, lifelong commitments to one another. It wasn’t until Kasara’s cats were both diagnosed with medical conditions of their own, (chronic kidney disease and FeLV) that her path of behavior centered animal welfare became more specifically geared towards Veterinary science.

In Wisconsin she had heard of Austin Pets Alive’s FeLV and Incontinent Cat programs, which ultimately led her to become a Cat Care Specialist with APA!. Kasara’s specific interest in Life Saving programs later led her to becoming the FIP Coordinator soon thereafter. It was through this program Kasara was reenergized to begin blending her Fear Free passions with extensive medical treatment. While working at APA! Kasara was fortunate enough to experience an externship opportunity with SACH to further her education. It was during this experience, Kasara knew she had found her dream job experience.

She is beyond euphoric to officially be a SACH Veterinary Technician, and to continue her passion in Fear Free Veterinary Medicine. She currently has 6 loveable feline companions who always remind her that every new diagnosis requires a dose of patience and understanding added in.

Julia was born in Austin, TX, and raised in Del Valle, TX. Growing up, the area was popular for cat dumping. At one point in her childhood, her family hosted and fed up to 15 cats at a time. She raised and cared for many animals, including hamsters, rabbits, and of course, cats. She has always had an affinity for anything creative such as creating artwork and dancing. At one point, she even aspired to complete a Fine Arts painting degree. Before completing her degree, she was pulled into her passion for animal welfare and care. After working with APA! and learning a lot about cat care and cat medicine, grateful for the knowledge she acquired there. She is very excited to use that expertise working with SACH.

She currently has three lovely kitties of her own- Tally, Peanut, and Yuna. She still loves to paint, create embroidery pieces, play video games, and hyper-focusing on anything she is super interested in. She also loves yoga during her decompression time, going on long walks, and spending time with her family and fiance, Jose. Cats bring her such joy, and she’s very excited to help ease cats and make them comfortable during their time with SACH!

Nikki was born and raised in Texas, and eventually moved to Austin in 2015. She has always had an affinity for cats and their behaviors: growing up, her parents were constantly admonishing her for bringing home a variety of lost or stray animals, many of whom ended up becoming a permanent part of the family. Her journey in animal welfare began as a volunteer working with local rescues and sanctuaries, and in 2022, she joined Austin Pets Alive! As a Cat Adoption Counselor. She became enamored and discovered her passion for working with cats with specialized medical or behavioral needs. She quickly became a Cat Veterinary Technician at APA!, where she was responsible for the daily care and oversight for the incontinent cats and other high need cats. She then went on to work as a Veterinary Technician at Shadow Cats Rescue in Round Rock, where she continued to care for special needs cats such as FeLV+ and incontinent populations.

Nikki has two cats of her own, Albus and Olive, and a dog named Rookie. In her free time she loves going on hikes, reading, doing arts and crafts, and going to concerts.
